The Year of Jamie

Only 12 days late but hey, at least I am blogging!!!

So, here is a run down of my goals for 2013

1. Be less round.
We all saw that one coming right? It's true. I want to lose weight. I wish I could say something deep like "I want to be able to one day run and play with my children" but in truth, I want to look good in clothes. There are so many great fashion choices out there right now that I would love to get my hands on but I just don't like how I feel in clothes right now. If you looked in my closet you would be shocked at the great selection of fashionable clothes, all in my normal size, but I can't wear any of them! Not because I feel self conscious but because I literally can not button them or they cut in and give me a very aggressive shit talking muffin top.

2. Get finances in order.
I am finally to the point in my life where I do not have to rob Peter to pay Paul. Don't get me wrong, every once in a while I still do a little banking magic but for the most part, I'm doing okay. I have a three year plan to buy a house (beyond excited!!!), so I put myself on a financial plan where at the end of the three years, I will be a great prospect to buying the house I want and have the money to do so. I am sure I will blog about the whole saving money, house buying process, because I am super excited, but also there is ton of hoops you have to jump through, and some of the requirements make me want to scream. My current credit building aggravation: I think it is nonsense that you have to have some sort of revolving credit (credit card) to make your credit look better. Shouldn't I get points for NOT having a credit card and somehow surviving?

3. Have more fun.
Last year it dawned on me that I was totally happy. Amazingly, for no certain reason, I am happy. I also realized I was slightly bored. I had a routine: I worked, went home after work, read or watched TV, played with the pups, ate, showered and then bed. Start the same routine the next day. I mentioned this to one of my closest friends and she said she felt the same way. Totally happy with our lives, but lacking some excitement. So this year my goal is to try something different at least once a month. It doesn't have to be a big adventure (but it can) and it doesn't have to scare the pants off of me (but it can). I just want to have more fun. Have more adventures that add to my already happy life. (Plus, it pretty much gives me something to blog about each month. Score!!!)

4. Take Better Care of Myself
Years ago, my two best friends had a ritual where they would go to CVS and comb the discount end aisles for what seemed like hours. They loved it to the point where it made me envious and I asked to go once. Notice I said once. I hated it. While they enthusiastically dug deep into the baskets, and pulled out the most obscure beauty product and debated trying it, I did a quick once over and wondered how much longer until we went and got a beer. I've never been that girl. I am not slamming those girls, in fact, I need to be more like that. I am just not big on grooming. Not in a dirty way, just in a minimalist (some would say lazy) way. I have minimal beauty products, I get pedicures maybe 3 times a year, I haven't had a message in forever, and I recently had a friend delete a perfectly good picture of us because you could tell I needed to have my hair recolored. So another goal of mine is do better in this arena. I am not going crazy or anything but I would hate for another innocent picture be deleted.

5. Read 100 Books This Year
This one I put in there because if I fail all the other ones, I should be able to pull this one off. I love to read. It's one of the many traits I got from my mother. Both of us would be perfectly content to spend the whole day reading while the world zoomed around us. I love to talk about books (shout out to my bookclub!), I love to suggest books to people (friend me on goodreads.com)and I love to spend hours in the library picking what I will read next. I typically allow myself 12-15 books at a time, and depending on how busy life is for me at that moment those books will last about 2 to 3 weeks. So, yah, I picked this one so I can say I accomplished at least one of my resolutions at the end of the year. (BTW, I am already 5 books ahead of schedule...but still round.)

So that's it. While most people pick one thing to focus on, I picked five. Go big or go home right? So, feel free to check on how I am doing on these. If you see me out and I'm sporting dinosaur feet, ask me to go get a pedicure with you. I will pretend like I don't know what you are doing. If you see me out in workout clothes, ask me about my workout, and I will pretend like I had actually been at the gym and not still wearing the clothes I slept in. While it may not seem like it, your gentle calling me out will remind me that I need to get my butt in gear. And I will love you for it, after I stop hating you for it.
